These organizations get fairly specific in their memberships. You may find something that's just perfect for you.

American Advertising Federation: “The American Advertising Federation (AAF) is The Unifying Voice for Advertising. We are the only professional advertising association that binds the mutual interests of corporate advertisers, agencies, media companies, suppliers and academia.”

American Business Women's Association: “To bring together businesswomen of diverse occupations and to provide opportunities for them to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support, and national recognition.”

American Farm Bureau Federation: “The purpose of Farm Bureau is to make the business of farming more profitable, and the community a better place to live. Farm Bureau should provide an organization in which members may secure the benefits of unified efforts in a way which could never be accomplished through individual effort.”

American Industrial Hygiene Association: Industrial hygienists are the people in charge of making sure you have a clean, healthy and environmentally sound work environment. With more than 13,000 members, the AIHA is "dedicated to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of environmental factors arising in or from the workplace that may result in injury, illness, impairment, or affect the well-being of workers and members of the community.” If you feel your workspace is not up to par, visit the site, gather information, and see what you can do to improve your work environment.

American Institute of Architects: Source for information for those in the architecture world, as well as those consumers looking for an architect.

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants: “AICPA is the premier national professional association for CPAs in the United States.”

American Institute of Graphic Arts: “The purpose of the AIGA is to further excellence in communication design as a broadly defined discipline, as a strategic tool for business, and as a cultural force. The AIGA is the place design professionals turn to first to exchange ideas and information, participate in critical analysis and research, and advance education and ethical practice.”

American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers: Offers tips, continuing education, a certified bookkeeper program, bookkeeping and tax updates, and other member benefits.

American Marketing Association: “The American Marketing Association is an international professional society of individual members with an interest in the practice, study, and teaching of marketing. Our principal roles are: First, to urge and assist the personal and professional development of our members; and second, to advance the science and ethical practice of the marketing discipline.”

American Society of Corporate Secretaries: “The American Society of Corporate Secretaries is a professional association whose membership is composed principally of corporate secretaries, assistant secretaries and other persons who are involved in duties normally associated with the corporate secretarial function. The Society regularly comments on proposed and existing rules and regulations of governmental agencies and other bodies and occasionally on legislative matters in the areas of particular interest to members. It also promotes and assists in the voluntary exchange of information and experience relating to the duties, problems and practices of corporate secretaries and their companies.”

American Society for Information Science: “Since 1937 ASIS has been the society for information professionals leading the search for new and better theories, techniques, and technologies to improve access to information. ASIS counts among its membership some 4,000 information specialists from such fields as computer science, linguistics, management, librarianship, engineering, law, medicine, chemistry, and education; individuals who share a common interest in improving the ways society stores, retrieves, analyzes, manages, archives and disseminates information, coming together for mutual benefit."

Association for Women in Computing: “Promoting the advancement of women in the computing professions.”

Black Data Processing Associates: “Since 1975, BDPA has served as an invaluable conduit between the information technology and African American communities. Through more than forty local chapters across the country, we offer career counseling, technological assistance, networking opportunities, workshops, computer competitions and more to students eager to join the information age and IT professionals seeking advancement.”

Forty Plus: “Forty Plus is the Nation's oldest and most successful non-profit organization dedicated to helping managers, executives and other professional types over 40 years of age find jobs! Forty Plus also offers employers a rich talent pool of experience.”

Institute of Management Foundation: “The mission of the Institute of Management is to promote the art and science of management.”

International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers: “The IFPTE is working to meet the specific needs of professional employees as they prepare themselves to face the challenges of the 21st century. IFPTE offers a unique combination of a proud history as well as a focus on representing highly skilled men and women.”

International Guild of Professional Consultants: “The International Guild of Professional Consultants is dedicated to furthering professionalism among consultants through programs and support services that enhance both the quality of services provided to their clients and the profitability of their consulting practices.

International Telework Association & Council: “ITAC is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the economic, social and environmental benefits of teleworking.”

The ManKind Project: Home of “The New Warrior® Training Adventure," the ManKind Project is for those males who feel they have lost their masculinity (and have retraced their steps and still can't find it). If you still don't get it, let's put it this way — the whole process begins with an “experimental weekend training adventure” where men are “challenged in deeply personal ways to look at who they are and how they make choices and live behaviors which work and don't work for them.”

Mensa: One of the well-known organizations in the world, Mensa members' IQs must be in the top 2% of the population. Incidentally, Mensa is Latin for "table"; though, if you're just learning that now, you probably don't have a chance of being a member.

National Association of Professional Organizers: “The National Association of Professional Organizers is a non-profit professional association whose members include organizing consultants, speakers, trainers, authors, and manufacturers of organizing products. It is the only national association of, by, and for organizers, with members thoughout the world.” It's still a bit unclear to the uneducated reader as to what “organizing” actually is, but if you're in the organizing world, you probably know what it is, and that's really all that matters.

National Watercolor Society: Founded in 1920, the NWS is dedicated to exhibiting and educating about the watercolor art form.
